About UD

This blog is about – and all about – ways in which universal design (UD) is informing the Maine Learning Technology Initiative, better known as the “MLTI.” The aim of UD is to make learning, more specifically learning with technology, accessible for the widest possible number of learners. While the roots of UD are in disability advocacy, the ultimate outcome is that the creation of full participation for students with disabilities will advance the learning achievement of all students – regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, language, or socioeconomic factors. Accommodations and modifications will always be necessary, but with the implementation of concepts and principles of UD, the need to create individualized learning plans is minimized. Stories, information, resources, current events, latest and emerging technology news, literature – you name it, I’ll uncover it – will be posted on this blog.

If you find the information on this blog helpful, be sure to visit the new iTunes U site of the Maine Department of Education. You’ll find a series titled, “Accessibility and the MLTI,” in which I regularly post podcasts about the universal design of learning technologies.
